Sommelier Michael Dolinski of Junoon - Biography

New York, NY

October 2014

Michael Dolinski’s career in wine began over 20 years ago at Marcel Desaulniers’ Trellis Restaurant in Williamsburg, Virginia. Moving on to work with Chef David Everett at The Dining Room at Ford’s Colony, Dolinski soon found himself in charge of a wine program with more than 1,000 selections, three restaurants, catering service, and 10 consecutive years of Best of Award of Excellence wins from Wine Spectator. During his tenure, the restaurant went on to be awarded a 5-Diamond award from AAA and a DiRonA award. Dolinski then went into wholesale, representing portfolios of top wines in Charlottesville, Virginia and Washington, D.C., before taking a job as a retail wine buyer for Sutton Place Gourmet, a luxury grocer in one of D.C.’s most exclusive neighborhoods.

After four successful years, and 30 percent sales growth, Dolinski was on the move again, first to Florida, then to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a Master Sommelier. Having achieved the level of Advanced Sommelier, Dolinski has worked in several restaurants helmed by prominent New York chefs, including Geoffrey Zakarian, Alain Allegretti, and Markus Glocker, all the while representing his core value that good wine is a perfect accompaniment for the very best food, regardless of the cultural origin of the cuisine.
