Rising Star Restaurateur Matt Eisler of Heisler Hospitality - Biography

Chicago, IL

May 2015

Going from a career on ice to a career in the nightlife isn’t a typical trajectory, but for entrepreneur Matt Eisler, it was a surprisingly easy glide.

While a student at the University of Notre Dame, entrepreneur Matt Eisler did two things well: study business and win MVP awards from the hockey team. Post graduation, Eisler signed with the NHL’s Calgary Flames. After three years, he retired the skates and used his business acumen to enter the world of hospitality with as much ambition as he brought to the rink. He opened his first venture, Elm Street Liquors, and never looked back. Over the course of 10 years, Eisler opened numerous venues throughout Chicago.

In 2006, Heisner and Eisler joined forces, forming design firm Heisler, a hospitality group that coalesces Heisner’s aesthetic with Eisler’s business savvy. Current projects include Trenchermen, Nightwood, Bar DeVille, Lone Wolf, Sportsman’s Club, and The Revel Room. In 2015, the pair earned a StarChefs Rising Star Restaurateurs Award for their work.
