Marisa Amador - Biography
Marisa Amador straddles Brooklyn and Honolulu with her hospitality public relations company, covering restaurants and food and beverage products at several thousand miles distance. Born and raised in the culinary melting pot of the Hawaiian Islands, Amador is naturally open to new flavors. And she’s expanded those horizons even further, living in Honolulu, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Pittsburgh, Tokyo, and Jeju, South Korea.
Before founding her public relations company, Amador graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in journalism and she taught English in South Korea—seizing the opportunity to travel in Asia. She finally headed home for a job at KITV, Hawaii’s ABC News affiliate. After almost five years as a TV news producer and reporter, Amador transitioned into the world of public relations.
Amador’s first clients were healthcare and nonprofit sectors, but her passion for food, love of writing, and experience in media converged when an opportunity at a hospitality agency presented itself. After serving as managing director for several years, Amador left to start her own company, working and living by her favorite Virginia Woolf quote: "One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well."
