While studying for a degree at the Institute for Hotel Management in Mumbai, Manish Mehrotra developed an intense liking for the energy, order, and satisfaction of a high volume kitchen. After graduation he joined the Taj Hotel Group as a kitchen management trainee, where he broadened his love and knowledge of food.

In 2000, after working at Old World Hospitality’s Oriental Octopus, the popular members’ restaurant at India Habitat Centre, Delhi, he was inspired to travel across Asia to experience the native cuisines. During this nine-year journey, he honed his cooking skills and his taste buds, developing a passion for unusual ingredients and flavor combinations.

Upon his return to India in 2009, he launched Indian Accent in New Delhi. The restaurant serves elegant, contemporary Indian food with the classic flavors of the subcontinent melding with uncommon global ingredients. Mehrotra has appeared on television in India on the program “Foodistan” and “MasterChef India.” He has won the Viv Sanghri Award for “Best Chef” in both 2010 and 2012, and, in 2015, he was named “Best Chef in India” by American Express.

For the second consecutive year in 2016, San Pellegrino designated Indian Accent as the “Best Restaurant in India” and the ninth “Best Restaurant in Asia.” Also in 2016, Mehrotra brought his cuisine to New York City, opening an Indian Accent at the Le Parker Meridien Hotel. The restaurant has since received two stars from The New York Times.
