Rising Star Restaurateur Leon Touzet of Patois - Biography

New Orleans, LA

April 3, 2012

Given his family history, it seems that Leon Touzet was destined to land in the New Orleans’s restaurant industry. His grandfather, Leon J. Touzet, moved from the Pau Region of France to New Orleans, where he worked in some of the city’s most beloved restaurants. Leon’s father also joined the restaurant business, and it wasn’t long before Leon himself ended up in the kitchen. In 2007, Leon, his brother Pierre and long-time friend and accomplished NOLA chef Aaron Burgau started Patois, where fresh, local ingredients get classic French treatment with a healthy savor of patois, or local accent. The restaurant was awarded four beans by the Times-Picayune and has received recognition from Food & Wine and the James Beard Foundation. In 2012, Leon earned the StarChefs.com New Orleans Rising Star Restaurateur award, along with Pierre and Burgau, for their most recent venture, the casual gourmet burger joint Trūburger. As the businessman of the trio, Leon manages back-of-house operations for both restaurants.
