Brewer Kyle Hurst of Big Alice Brewing - Biography
Queens, New York
Growing up surrounded by the beer culture of his native Wisconsin, brewer Kyle Hurst got his first taste of a homebrew in the mid-90’s. Enthused by the possibilities it presented, he embarked on his own homebrewing journey, experimenting with diverse styles which surpassed the commercial beer selection at his local markets. Moving to New York City in 2008, he was introduced to Robby Crafton, a fellow enthusiast with whom he developed brews that highlighted local and organic ingredients. In August 2011 they entered their light Belgian ale in a homebrew contest and won the people’s choice award, cementing their dedication to the craft. Together with Scott Berger they launched Big Alice Brewery in Long Island City, Queens, in early 2013.
