Chef Jonathan Yao of Kato - Biography

After college, Jonathan Yao's parents didn't want him to cook. With a degree from University of California at Riverside, Yao went to pursue his culinary dreams. He began staging at Ari Taymor's Alma before heading to San Francisco for a challenge. There, he staged at Benu, Coi, and then Monsieur Benjamin, where he cooked on the line. He returned home to Los Angeles to open Kato in 2016, and has garnered accolades from Eater, GQ, and the LA Times. He is 25 years old.
