Brewer John Cochran of Terrapin Brewery - Biography
Terrapin Beer Company President John Cochran got bitten by the beer bug while in college at University of Georgia, but the fever took a few years to take hold. After graduating, he moved to the Pacific Northwest, where he saw a number of local breweries. When he moved back to Georgia, he had reached his fever pitch and in 2002 decided to start up Terrapin in his hometown of Athens. Ever since he’s been infecting others (along with business partner Brian “Spike” Buckowski) with his amazing brews unlike any other in the Southeast (his award-winning Rye Pale Ale is case in point) and as founding member of the state Craft Brewer’s Guild. What started as a scrappy outfit using other breweries’ equipment has evolved into a major player in the Georgian beer scene under Cochran’s stewardship.
