Sommelier Jeff Taylor of North End Grill - Biography

Originally an actor, Jeff Taylor now prefers the theatrics of the dining room. Born and raised in Boston, Taylor attended high school in London and spent his weekends traveling throughout Europe. Moving to New York for acting school, Taylor began his restaurant tenure at Gramercy Tavern, followed by Bistro du Vent, Mario Batali’s French restaurant that his since closed.

Taylor continued his education at Eleven Madison Park. Beginning in 2007 as a captain, he worked his way up to sommelier by 2009 and became head sommelier in 2012. Taylor left two years later for a wine director position at Betony, alongside Rising Stars alum Chef Bryce Shuman and Beverage Director Eamon Rockey. Taylor helped Betony earn in a Michelin star, Wine Spectator’s “Best of Award of Excellence” and Esquire’s “Best New Restaurant in the U.S.” 

Following gigs at The Baccarat Hotel & Residences and Lidia Bastianich’s Felidia, Taylor is now lending his expertise as wine director of Union Square Hospitality’s North End Grill in lower Manhattan. In 2014, Wine & Spirits named Jeff to their “Best New Sommeliers” list, and he was one of three winners of the inaugural La PaulĂ©e Sommelier Scholarship to Burgundy.
