Mixologist Hallie Arnold of The Grocery - Biography
If Hallie Arnold knows how to wrangle flavor behind the bar of Charleston’s The Grocery, there’s good reason. Arnold isn’t just a confident mixologist, she’s also spent time exploring the restaurant industry as a whole, learning and earning a serious appreciation for flavor. Arnold was part of the last graduating class of Johnson & Wales in Charleston, moving from Charlotte to earn her culinary degree in hotel and restaurant management. She further honed her skills at The Break Room in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, taking every opportunity to learn more about food, wine, and spirits. But Arnold’s true and lasting calling was always behind the bar, first at Break Room and now at The Grocery, where she is inspired by fresh ingredients and the menu items coming out of the kitchen - often making infusions out of the restaurant’s house-pickled vegetables. (Her beet-garnished cocktail helped her win “People’s Choice” at the 2013 Charleston Wine + Food Official Mixologist Competition.) Inevitably a student of cocktail history, Arnold isn’t afraid to color outside the lines with classic recipes, as long as it serves to make the drink, and the experience, a better one.
