Graduating from Sonoma State University with a degree in computer science, Geoff Kruth moved to Silicon Valley to pursue a career in the ever-burgeoning tech industry. By proximity alone, wine became a hobby, then a passion, and finally a career change, with Kruth enrolling at the International Culinary Center (then the French Culinary Institute) in New York. Before returning to California, Kruth became assistant wine director at Balthazar in Manhattan, overseeing the entirety of their extensive, high-profile wine program. With mentors like Fred Dame and Chris Goodhart behind him, Kruth rose quickly, and in 2008 became one of less than 150 people who (at the time) had earned the title Master Sommelier.

A 2009 StarChefs Napa-Sonoma Rising Star and now a wine director at the Michelin-starred Farmhouse Inn and Restaurant in Forestville, California, Kruth has also been the wine consultant for the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival in Hawaii for several years. As chief operating officer for the nonprofit Guild of Sommeliers, Kruth helped found the annual “Top Somm” competition, furthering the Guild’s mission of advancing wine culture a fun, professional edge.
