Chef Erin Shambura of L'Artusi - Biography

New York, NY

September 2012

Erin Shambura grew up in Bergen County, New Jersey where her earliest restaurant experiences were as a server and bartender at a few local restaurants. She enjoyed the interplay with customers but grew to love the kitchen at work. Upon graduating from Providence College, with a history and business major, she decided to pursue her interest in the culinary field; she attended the New York Restaurant School and graduated 18 months later.

Since then, Erin has worked in a few of New York City's well-known restaurants.  She interned at Wylie Dufresne's WD50 and was sous chef at The Mercer Kitchen.  Wanting to further her culinary skills and learn first-hand about fine Italian cuisine, she went back to the kitchen as line cook at Mario Batali's Del Posto where she crossed paths with Gabriel Thompson. It was at Del Posto, under the tutelage of Chef Mark Ladner, that she grew to understand and love Italian cuisine.  Upon leaving Del Posto Erin took the position of sous chef at another Batali eatery, Lupa working for three years honing her skills.

Looking for a new challenge, Erin joined the team at L'Artusi as Chef de Cuisine in the summer of 2010. The open kitchen fits well with her style of cooking.  She's also very happy to be working again with Gabe with whom she shares a passion for using fresh ingredients to create great food.  The warm and family like atmosphere of L'Artusi feels like a perfect match to her.
