Sommelier Erin Scala of The Musket Room - Biography

New York, NY

September 2013

A native of the blossoming wine region of Virginia, Erin Scala’s first experience with wine was working the harvests in the 1980’s and 90’s. But the musician inside kept her travelling around the world playing drums for a decade, supplementing her musician's income with restaurant jobs.

Landing a job at a fine dining restaurant brought her love of wine back in the picture, and (after five years) transitioned fully from drumming to restaurants. Scala has worked in Manhattan for the past several years, running large wine lists in the Meatpacking District, and most notably at the Michelin Star-rated Public restaurant. Scala specializes in the wines of the USA, New Zealand, and Australia. Most recently, she has joined forces with New Zealand Chef Matt Lambert to pour at The Musket Room, a new restaurant featuring modern New Zealand cuisine. She is also working on her first book “Wines of Virginia” to be released in 2015.
