Rising Star Chef David Ansill of 15 Ladder - Biography
Chef David Ansill, a Cheltenham native, was trained at Philadelphia's The Restaurant School and spent 14 years perfecting his dishes and honing his skills cooking at such renowned local eateries as the Rittenhouse Hotel, Judy’s Café, Café Nola, Cobblefish, Lucy’s Hat Shop and Continental. He also spent time perfecting his culinary skills in Sweden and Miami Beach, Florida, including stints at the Delano Hotel, Le Deux Fountains and South Beach Brasserie.
Ansill struck out on his own with Pif, an intimate French restaurant located in the heart of South Philadelphia that won him a 2004 StarChefs.com Risings Stars Award. Pif, whose name comes from a children's book character beloved by Ansill’s daughter, featured a seasonal menu that changed monthly, weekly, and even daily, depending on what produce and meats were available and fresh at the market each morning. Ansill owned and operated his BYOB restaurant, as well as a second locale, Ansill Food + Wine with his French wife, Catherine, who doubled as Pif’s pastry chef.
After closing both restaurants, Ansill took over menu responsibilities at 15 Ladder, gastropub-cum sports bar, in 2010, where he continues to bring his adventurous style to approachable cuisine.
