Mixologist Christy Pope of Cuffs & Buttons - Biography
Christy Pope is "first class" in the cocktail world in more ways than one. She was a graduate of the inaugural class of the Beverage Alcohol Resource spirits and mixology program. And she was also part of the opening team of Milk & Honey, New York’s (now) famed cocktail den. As part of the groundbreaking crew under Sasha Petraske, Pope helped cultivate the distinct image, standards, techniques, and cocktail repertoire that vaulted the bar to its current standard-setting status.
In fact, Pope was such a strong part of the Milk & Honey team that in 2006, Petraske partnered with her and fellow M & H alumnus Chad Solomon to form Cuffs & Buttons, a cocktail catering and consulting firm. Over the last five years, Pope has not only developed signature craft cocktails, but conducted spirit, history, and technique trainings, and traveled the world installing beverage programs for hotels, restaurants, and bars.
Pope is deservedly recognized by her peers in the industry—and not simply for being one of its leading female members. She presents annually at Tales of the Cocktail and is a recurring presenter in the mixology program at the StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress. Named “Trendsetter of the Year” in 2008 by Modern Bride and one of Food & Wine’s “100 Must Tastes of 2007,” Pope has also been featured in publications nationwide, including the New York Times, Gotham, and the Los Angeles Times.
