Brad Orrison of The Shed - Biography

Ocean Springs, MS

August 2013

Brad Orrison graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2000 with a degree in marketing and business. In 2001 he and sister, Brooke Orrison Lewis, opened the doors to a tiny 300-square-foot barbecue take-out shed on Highway 57 between Ocean Springs and Vancleave, Mississippi. Within five years The Shed had morphed into a 10,000-square-foot, full-fledged barbecue mecca, moving a ton and a half of meat through the smoker daily.

Bringing together award-winning barbecue and blues, the now no-so-aptly-named The Shed has become a Mississippi institution and franchise, with locations in Gulfport and Mobile. Orrison also has launched the Shed Saucery, a barbecue sauce factory in Ocean Springs, as part of his growing retail and merchandising operations.

Since 2010, Orrison has been selected to sit on the National Barbecue Association’s “Meet the Masters” panel. The Shed also is a Food Network fixture, having been featured on several of its most popular shows, including “Diner’s, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and as the star of the restaurant’s eponymous show “The Shed.” Orrison and his barbecue also have been featured on ABC LIVE!, Travel Channel, CMT, History Channel, Spike TV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel, and PBS. The Shed’s recipes are published in cookbooks and magazines from the Big Book of BBQand Where America Eats to Southern Living.
