Mixologist Avery Glasser of Amor y Amargo - Biography

New York, NY

June 2011

Unofficial bitters expert and all-around spirits-forward kind of guy, Avery Glasser is co-founder of Bittermens, Inc., a small production bitters outfit currently based out of New York City. There, with his wife Janet, Glasser has been responsible for creating a number of new iconic cocktail flavorings. In fact, Glasser first developed Bittermens’ Xocolatl Mole Bitters, the often-copied chocolate and spice bitters, in 2007 while living in San Francisco. Since then, Bittermens has grown into one of the largest independent cocktail bitters producers in the world. In 2011, Bittermens partnered to open a pop-up cocktail bar and cocktail supply store in Manhattan’s East Village, Amor y Amargo, all while launching a new experimental line of products. In addition to customizing small (or very small) batch bitters for a client base of savvy mixologists and bar-types, Glasser is also a noted specialist in the biometric identification industry, with three patents pending.
