Sommelier Anthony Giglio of Wise Wine Guy - Biography

Although he’s reluctant to admit it, Anthony Giglio’s first taste of wine came early, hidden in a glass of Coca-Cola. His grandfather called it a “spaghetti spritzer” and paired it with a Sunday pasta repast. Giglio’s been hooked ever since. Today, Giglio is a sommelier, journalist, and author, who writes and lectures about all things potable, and his output is as prodigious as his thirst.
Giglio has penned a number of monthly columns, including the award-winning “Liquids” in Boston magazine and “Liquid Assets” in Trader Monthly and Deal Maker magazines. He broadcast the daily “Connoisseur Corner” wine report on CBS Radio’s Boston affiliate, and was the nightlife editor at Wine & Spirits Magazine. Giglio’s bound and shelved output is equally impressive: his first book, cocktail compendium Cocktails in New York, was followed by the 70th anniversary redux of Mr. Boston Official Bartender’s Guide, and Mr. Boston Platinum Edition. Giglio also ghost-wrote and edited Dale DeGroff’s best-selling King Cocktail, The Craft of the Cocktail, and two books with Master Sommelier Andrea Immer Robinson.
A former dining critic for the New York Sun and New Jersey Monthly, Giglio writes regularly on food, wine, spirits, travel, and lifestyle for a variety of magazines, including Esquire, Food & Wine, Departures Magazine, Parade, Travel + Leisure, La Cucina Italiana, and New York Magazine. Giglio has been a member of the Wine & Spirits Magazine tasting panel and former board member of the Sommelier Society of America. When he’s not writing, Giglio is an occasional guest on American Public Media’s “The Splendid Table” and correspondent for CBS News Radio. He has also been asked to speak twice at The Moth, a Peabody Award-winning not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling.
