Chef Anita Epulef of Cocina Mapu Iyagl Mapuche Cooking School - Biography
Anita Epulef is a traditional Mapuche chef and the owner-operator of the Cocina Mapu
Iyagl Mapuche cooking school in the southern town of Curarrehue. She is an expert in her field of Mapuche cookery and is a frequent participant in culinary and native identity events, notably the international seminar on Globalization, Human Rights, and Native Peoples sponsored by the Native Rights Monitoring Center in Santiago, and the Native Rights and Heritage Workshop organized by the School of Anthropology in Curarrehue.
Epulef has also taken part in the Food and Identity Exchange held in Lima, Peru; the Flavors and Insights of Chilean Cuisine seminar in São Paulo, Brazil; and the Mapuche Cooking Workshop held in Ruka Choroy, Argentina. She was named Bicentennial Woman by the Catholic University of Temuco in 2010, and is currently coordinating the Mapuche Tourism Network in Curarrehue.
