Sommelier Alexis Kahn of The International Culinary Center - Biography

New York, NY

September 2010

Alexis Kahn tried life behind a desk, but it wasn’t for her. So when she discovered her real passion in the hospitality industry, Kahn put her Ivy League marketing degree in a metaphorical display frame and dove into restaurants, head first. Part of award-winning teams at both Tribeca Grill and Eleven Madison Park, Kahn refined her knowledge of wine and food both on the job and with steady coursework. And Kahn proved her knowledge when she became general manager and wine director of L’Ecole, the restaurant of The French Culinary Institute, with a wine list that won awards from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Crystal Beverage. Promoted to associate director of the Advanced Studies and Recreational Divisions, Kahn emphasizes the individuality of the palate and its ability to grasp the relationship between the wine and the dish.

A Certified Specialist of both wine and spirits, Kahn’s most recent perfect food and wine pairing was a beef slider with ketchup, mustard, and a pickle “that sang with a Grand Cru Beaujolais.”
