A Bittersweet Call to Action
Chefs and restaurateurs, there’s something you
can do to help the tsunami relief efforts in South Asia.
Participate in Sweet Relief, a growing nation-wide coalition
of restaurants that are raising money for the tsunami
victims by donating a percentage of all dessert sales
at lunch and dinner in January and/or February to CARE,
a humanitarian agency fighting poverty around the world.
CARE (www.care.org) has had a long-standing presence
in the areas affected and, as a result, has been able
to quickly mobilize and distribute food and water to
victims immediately after the tragedy. Sweet Relief’s
donations will go towards clean water to reduce threat
of illness, shelter materials, basic medical supplies,
food and cooking supplies. CARE will also continue their
work in the area for years staying on to help rebuild
communities and livelihoods.
To contribute, restaurants are asked to send a check
with their tax deductible donation at the end of the
month made payable to CARE. Indicate “Tsunami
Relief” in the memo space. Checks should be mailed
to the following address:
