Born in the U.S. and raised in Germany, Thomas Rimpel attended culinary school in Hamburg, where he perfected his knowledge of classical European cuisine. His interest in food began in his grandmother’s garden, where he tasted fresh, seasonal produce. She inspired him to enter into the culinary field but later, Chef Bernd Liebergesell of The Westin St. Francis would become his mentor. The two have worked together for over 16 years now, reinventing the seasonal banquet menus in one of the largest kitchens in the city.
