I agree... I think being cheerful and friendly and courteous is extremely important in waiting tables and too many young people think the money is owed to them.. if you arent doing your best to be friendly and listen to what your customer wants you arent going to make anything..
and too many younger people get disgruntled by the few that dont leave enough.. it always averages out and if it doesnt then it might be something you are doing. On the second note though.. it would be easier if restaurants didnt feel that because we make this and that much a month off tips that we owe them to be janitors for their place.. we should have to steam clean floors or clean toilets for 2 dollars an hour..
I've waited at too many places now that have you do an hour each before and after the restaurant is open doing menial tasks or baking breads and cleaning. My job now has to have several wasitstaff on hand every evening even if its slow because there is too much clean up for one to do it alone.
