I may be different than most people but I hate BIG food presentations on normal size dinner plates. All in all, I hate what I call "big food"!
I attended the New Orleans Gourmet Products Show year before last, and one thing that dampened my appetite was the size of the portions at Emeril's restaurants, Brennan's and The Pelican Club. At Emeril's I recall the waiter placing my plate in front of me with a steak so BIG (4 inches thick) that it literally hung off the sides of the plate. The waiter smiled coyly at me and said, "now be sure to eat it all!"
California restaurants have "spoiled" me for giant Louisiana portions, and really sloppy servings. Two places did restore my faith in the oft heralded praise of French Quarter chefs....the French restaurant in the St. Louis Hotel and Madeleine's Cafe on Jackson Square. Good food and "normal size" servings with pretty presentation and great service.
