: : I don't think "serving" (if that was the word you meant and not "servering" (as in servering HEADS) is the sport of the "underpaid" as a matter of fact I am a professional server and I make damn good money, definitely not underpaid, if you can't take the heat,of the way people act, then stop complaining and go work in cubicle or something....

: Thanks happyserver

: I really don't understand so many unhappy servers. In such an open job market and a great economy their are plenty of job options for anyone who is unhappy with their current job. Nothing ties servers to a particular restaurant or for that matter to the career in general. If the clients and management is so bad, move on. Thats life. Also, I have worked in the restaurant industry for about 10 years--pastry chef-- and I know that ultimately it is called the hospitality industry for a good reason. People lay down their hard-earned money for just that hospitality. If restaurant workers, front or back house, don't want to offer customers hospitality those workers really do need to find other work. In case you wonder, I went in IT work because I realized that I did not want to be in the restaurant industry any longer. But my new job still involves a great deal of "service" to my customers/clients. Thanx.

I'm a server... i HATE people, but they don't know it.. i like it because you walk out of every shift with cash.. i make anywhere from 13-25 dollars an hour depending on how busy it is..THAT is why i put up with it.... We ALL complain and make fun of the customers because, think about it, we are getting paid to take orders from you, and take the blame for things that most of the time we had no control over and it gets demeaning at times... Especially when customers abuse what little power they have over us.. everyone is allowed to vent..
And some people just don't understand that we have more than one table to take care of at the same time.... i usually have about 6.
