Closing time policies

I arrived at a restaurant with some friends at 10:15 P.M. The posted closing time was 11 P.M. We were told that we had to order right away because the kitchen was about to close. We were allowed to order, but one friend who arrived a little later was not allowed to order from the grill because the kitchen was being closed down.

An 11 P.M. closing time should mean that customers may arrive at any time before 11 P.M. and will receive a little time after 11 P.M. to finish eating if necessary. That's the standard policy at upscale restaurants. Some places even let people in a little after the posted time.

It could have been worse - I was once forced to leave a pizza place at 11 P.M. before I had finished eating (and they knew I had just been served).
