Candlelight orlamps on the table.White linen tablecloths.Real silver.Very private banquettes - the ones with high backs and tables the waiterpushes in for you - you can only see forward, and no one is sitting infront of you. Really romantic!Appetizers that are just that - small enough for a taste, not a maincourse.Surprise treats - we once had a fantastic anniversary weekend where myhusband booked everything as a surprise. At the end of the meal, afterhaving been teased by all evening by the server wheeling the deserttrolley (I think I drooled every time he walked past), a cake wasbrought out by the desert server (not our regular server) - no sparklersor candles, a multi-layered sponge cake with chocolate frosting. Myhusband hadn` ordered it-they knew it was our anniversary and acted ontheir own. (No charge for it, incidentally!)A maitre d` who makes you feel comfortable. That same evening, themaitre d` greeted us with, " yes - it` your anniversary." When I askedhow he knew,(hey - I was young and kind of bowled over by the wholeexperience!) he gave one of those little French shrugs and said, " - weknow everything!" He was also on hand when we were finished our meal tothank us for coming and wish us again a Happy Anniversary. This includeda rose for me and a kiss on the hand, and a handshake for my husband. Iknow it sounds schloky, but it was done with so much sincerity andclass, I found it touching. By the way, we had never been there before.
