Once upon a time there was a girl named Lee who gave her name to a foster child . . . a true story . . . and when she asked what her new name should be, her Dad said “Lucky!” It was a prophecy!

Even luckier are the chefs, retail stores and wholesalers who have a year-round supply of tasty, field-grown, sun-ripened tomatoes because of the passion of Lucky, and her brother Alan. The company started in New York City over 30 years ago, and distributes to New York, the Eastern Seaboard and as far west as the Pacific Ocean.

Just days after being hand picked at the peak of ripeness, this family owned company transports the tomatoes on their own trucks to their own facilities, where they are cleansed with an ozone based, state of the art,  food sanitation program.

Tips on how to identify good tomatoes .  . . look for the bright red ones with a sheen and a tomato fragrance. Many commercial tomatoes are turned red with ethelyne gas and have a dull finish, or are grown in hothouses.

Another tip, it should give ever so slightly to the touch. Lucky says . . . “Never trust a HARD tomato!”
