| Dumplings
and ravioli are particularly popular with kids, especially if they've had
a hand in making them themselves. Using devices and gadgets make it doubly
fun for little ones. From cookie cutters, to inexpensive plastic Chinese
dumpling makers (in the Asian foods section of the supermarket or in Asian
markets), to pasta machines for rolling out the dough -- kids love transforming
dough into good things to eat!
Below are some family activities involving dumplings and ravioli along with some proven family-friendly recipes from my book, Cooking Time Is Family Time. *Dumpling Memory Game - This is a twist on the familiar word game where the first person leads off with "I went to the store and bought some" and then each person adds a new item, according to the letters of the alphabet and repeating each person's addition. In this version, parents should start out, "I went into the kitchen to make some dumplings with" and let the children think of foods that they'd like to have in dumplings, going in order of the alphabet. Such as, apples, butternut squash, crab, duck, etc. Ask them to think of foods they would really like to try inside a dumpling!
