PATINA RESTAURANT
In a town full of great restaurant, this may be the finest of
them all, raves Los Angles magazine about Patina Restaurant. This
understated jewel located in the heart of Hollywoodâs studio district
has offered Joachim Splichal's inspired Franco-California cuisine
since 1989. Rated Number One for seven consecutive years by the
popular Los Angeles Zagat Survey, Patina has earned Joachim numerous
awards and great loyalty among L.A.'s food aficionados. Patina
was also rated one of the "Top Restaurants" in Los Angeles in
Gourmet magazine's October 1996 and 1997 restaurant issue.
The flexible floor plan, allowing for private parties ranging
in size from 10 to 60 includes a bar, often used for cocktail
receptions, and three dining rooms. The fabrics and textures give
Patinaâs always elegant decor a subtly rich look, and the artwork,
chosen by the Splichals, by renowned photographers Michael Kenna
and Michael Lardizabal grace the walls.
The award-winning menus include crustacean, chefs and vegetarian
price-fixed menus, and a seasonal game menu that includes partridge,
wild pigeon, grouse, woodcock and pheasant flown in fresh from
Scotland from late Fall until mid- January.
A heightened commitment to wine is exemplified by Patina's sommelier
Christopher Meeske, who assisted with both Charlie Trotter's and
the Carmel Highland Inn's Pacific's Edge restaurant's achievement
of the coveted Wine Spectator grand Award. Patina's wine cellar
is also an annual recipient of the Wine Spectator Magazine's prestigious
Grand Award. Coffee & tea service includes an extended list of
estate coffees, and freshly made herbal infusions such as lavender,
mint and thyme.
Patina boasts the largest after dinner drink list in the city;
including 40 cognacs, 30 Armagnaos, 25 ports, marc de Champagne,
Eau de vie, grappas, 25 single malt whiskeys, and Calvados. Tastings
of different vintages are offered, such as a Tasting Menu of three
ports, perhaps to be enjoyed with the cheese course, or of three
malt whiskeys. There is an aperitif menu as well. Sommelier Christopher
Meeske is an advanced Sommelier certified in 1991 by the Court
of Master Sommeliers. Before coming to Patina, Christopher was
at the Inn at Spanish Bay at Pebble Beach, CA, with previous experience
working as an assistant to Master Sommelier Larry Stone of Charlie
Trotter's, in Chicago, and as sommelier at Carmel Highland Inn's
Pacific's Edge Restaurant. Both at Trotter's and at the Pacific's
Edge he assisted in the achievement of Wine Spectator's coveted
Grand Award.
