Inside Phillip Johnson's famed Lipstick Building, the
Lipstick Café is a stylish café that caters
to both the midtown business crowd as well as the sophisticated
tourist stopping in for a brief respite from city shopping
and museum going. Serving delicious and reasonably priced
breakfast and lunch fare in the scaled-down, yet simple
signature style of Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the
Lipstick Café offers a wonderful alternative
to the usual midtown hustle and bustle.
Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 3 pm, one can sit
and enjoy fresh homemade croissants, brioches and muffins.
Or try the buttery jelly doughnut, filled with a rich
blackberry jam. Served with rich café au lait
or espresso, this makes for an easy breakfast or quick
early afternoon snack. From 11:45 to 3:00, lunch is
served with offerings such as Seared Duck Breast Salad
with Baby Greens & Tamarind Dressing, Spicy Shrimp with
a Thai Salad of Rice Vermicelli, Grapefruit, Mint &
Coriander and Goat Cheese, Roasted Tomato & Basil Galette.
There is also a variety of sandwiches that are as easy
to eat in the Café as they are at one's desk
-- if need be. Choose from such options as Seared Lamb
Loin on Sesame Roll with Basil Mayonnaise, Watercress
& Tomato Salsa, Basil Egg
